Testimonies of Former Students

“(…) The topicality of the subjects taught in the areas of Computer Communications, Computer Networks, and Transmission Systems, among others, allowed me to leave the University with a set of skills that were highly sought after in the market at the time. This fact enabled my integration into high-responsibility national and international projects on my very first day of work. I owe much of my professional progression to this fortunate start to my career. My sincere thanks to the University of Minho and especially to the CCN Group of the Department of Informatics.”

  • Graça Carvalho, Director - UCL Centre for Digital Innovation.

“I was part of the first group of students who could choose the Communications option at LESI. At the time it seemed a bit risky, but at the same time very appealing, as it was a new area in the course. The choice proved to be very important for me, as it not only became the area of computer science in which I specialized, but it has also been essential for adequately performing the functions that have been assigned to me throughout my professional career. With the growing importance of the Internet and associated processes, it is essential to have a solid understanding of the underlying technologies. It is also an area that has demonstrated enormous dynamism and innovation over the last decade.”

  • João Nuno Ferreira, Technical Director of the Foundation for National Scientific Computing (FCCN)

“My experience in the CCN group at the University of Minho opened the door to the wonderful world of computer networks and the Internet, and consequently, to an exciting and very enjoyable career. Even after working at several universities in the United Kingdom and observing what is taught there, I have no doubt in stating that the quality of teaching, including practical laboratory work, is clearly superior at my first university. The 21st century is, and will increasingly be, the century of Communications. All sectors of our lives—Health, Education, Security, Transport, Environment, etc.—will quickly need the Internet to become more efficient and productive.”

  • Miguel Rio, Professor of Computer Networks at the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London (UCL), UK.
