The Computer Communications and Networks (CCN) Group is a premier research and teaching unit within the Department of Informatics, School of Engineering at the University of Minho.

Our Legacy

Established in 1975—the University’s inaugural year—the CCN Group has been a cornerstone of Informatics Engineering in Portugal. We played a foundational role in:

  • Establishing the first Portuguese National Research Network.
  • Connecting Portugal to the global Internet.
  • Developing the country’s first graduate and postgraduate Informatics Engineering curricula.

Education & Teaching

We provide comprehensive education across all levels of the Bologna process (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs). Our curriculum covers a broad spectrum of networking topics, from fundamental principles to cutting-edge networking technologies.

Research & Innovation

Currently integrating the group Computer Communications and Pervasive Media within the Centro Algoritmi Research Unit, our research focuses on the engineering, testing, and deployment of advanced networks and services. We aim to support emerging applications across secure wired and wireless environments.
